Distinguished Lecture Series: Commercial determinants of health – the evidence and importance for public health practice

The Faculty of Public Health is presenting the fourth of our distinguished lectures on the future of public health.

We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by Professor Linda Bauld, Chief Social Policy Adviser to the Scottish Government and Bruce and John Usher Chair in Public Health in the Usher Institute, College of Medicine, University of Edinburgh.

For the past 25 years, Professor Bauld has led studies to prevent or treat the main modifiable risk factors for non-communicable diseases including cancer, diabetes and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases with a particular focus on tobacco, alcohol, diet, and inequalities in health.

Professor Bauld is a former Scientific Adviser to the UK Department of Health, the World Health Organisation and Cancer Research UK on prevention and public health.

To discuss the importance of the commercial determinants of health for public health practice, Professor Bauld will be joined by a distinguished panel, including:

  • Professor Kevin Fenton, FPH President
  • Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz, FPH Vice-President; Executive Director for Public Health and Strategic Partnerships, Aneurin Health Board, Wales
  • Alice Kadri, Public Health Speciality Registrar; Co-chair of the FPH Commercial Determinants of Health SIG
