The Role
The role of a special interest group (SIG) is to tackle pressing issues facing the public’s health and to provide a platform to speak out in one voice on a particular topic. SIGs enable members from across the UK and globally to network with other public health professionals.
The (formerly) Equality & Diversity SIG was established in September 2020 at the Faculty’s anti-racism event and has three main aims:
- Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion both within the public health workforce and in all public health work
- Identifying and advocating for concrete actions to tackle individual and systemic inequality in both the workforce and public health work
- Providing a network for collaboration, including sharing and learning about EDI within the workforce
Key Responsibilities
Your role as chair will include the following responsibilities:
- Facilitate a regular EDI SIG meeting (previously quarterly)
- Maintain the EDI SIG mailbox including responding to incoming questions and requests
- Liaise with FPH on matters regarding the SIG including new members, requests for attending meeting and presenting on the work of the SIG
- Help support or steer fellow members of the SIG towards collaboration where requested
- Develop workplans with SIG members
- Contribute to NHS England Recruitment Executive Group to address differential attainment in training

Requirements
In order to chair an FPH SIG you are required to be a member of the FPH.
