Experts in psychiatry and public health gave talks on how we could collaborate more effectively in delivering better mental health for all, which included:
- Wendy Burn, President of the RCPsych, talked about why collaborative working is important when it comes to the dissemination of psychiatric addiction services.
- GP Sir Sam Everington talked about the benefits of social prescribing from his experience being part of the Bromley-By-Bow GP partnership, which has over 100 projects under its roof dedicated to supporting the wider determinants of health. Sir Everington, one of the pioneers of social prescribing, talked about the importance of finding out what matters to people, not what is the matter with them.
- Sir Harry Burns, Professor of Global Public Health at Strathclyde University, gave the key note speech about taking a holistic look at what causes wellness.
Christina Gray, Chair of the Public Mental Health SIG, said: “Thank you to all of the attendees and speakers for making this year’s public mental health conference a big success. It was really inspiring to see such a desire between the public health and psychiatry communities to work together to deliver public mental health prevention more effectively.
