From January 2025, the Faculty of Public Health will be suspending our social media presence on X.
This decision has been taken by the Faculty Board which recognises the platform as incompatible with our organisational values due to its recent reversal of policies prohibiting disinformation, re-instatement of accounts promoting hate-speech, and increasing political bias.
These actions are in direct conflict with the values held by the Faculty of Public Health as we seek to promote evidence-based policy and debate, foster responsible and sustainable leadership, advocate on principles of justice and equity, and condemn racism and other forms of hate-speech.
Free debate, including on controversial and contentious issues, is important – but this must not come at the expense of people’s safety and security.
The spread of disinformation on X, proliferation of often politically motivated hate-speech, and amplification of other harmful content is causing real-world harm. The Faculty of Public Health can no longer be active on a platform which allows and even promotes these actions.
The Faculty of Public Health will continue to use our channels on LinkedIn and now Bluesky to communicate with our members and the public.
