Health literacy: there’s something tangible we can do when it comes to tackling health inequalities

10th March 2025, 12:00pm - 1:00pm , Online

The University of Staffordshire’s Centre for Health and Development (CHAD) and the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) are delighted to invite you to this webinar with Dr Mike Oliver, registered Health Psychologist, Chartered Psychologist, and Visiting Fellow of University of Staffordshire.

In this webinar, we will show that organisational health literacy is an active way of thinking and doing something practical about health inequalities. We will share what health and care providers have done (relatively quickly and cheaply) to improve their health literacy. We will explore how improved organisational health literacy ultimately supports improved personal and community health literacy – in turn leading to improved health outcomes. This will be an interactive session – so please come ready to take part if you wish!

Mike is a registered Health Psychologist and Chartered Psychologist. He is very proud to have completed both his MSc and Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at Staffordshire University. He now specialises in Health Literacy in particular, working nationally to support health and care organisations to recognise the importance of the subject and the part it has to play in addressing health inequalities. He has stayed very engaged with the University, including mentoring undergraduates, being a guest lecturer, and supporting with the series of CHAD webinars. You can read more about Mike’s health literacy work here.

This one hour-session will include:

  • Chair's welcome
  • Presentation and interactive discussions on 'What is health literacy – and what can we do about it?' Dr Mike Oliver, Health Psychologist, Chartered Psychologist, and Visiting Fellow of University of Staffordshire.
  • Q&A
