Academic careers advice (middle-stage careers focus)

3rd April 2025, 12:00pm - 1:00pm , Online

This is an informal opportunity for attendees to discuss with a panel of current mid-career and senior public health academics about their insight, experience and advice on public health academic career paths. Though all are welcome, this session will predominantly focus on middle-stage careers, i.e. public health academics who are at or approaching post-doctoral level and are considering their options for achieving an advanced or tenured position.

Attendees from any background and at any stage in their academic career are welcome to attend but priority will be given to questions regarding middle-stage career queries. Our panel will consist of academics holding advanced-level fellowships from the NIHR and UKRI and tenured posts:

  • Dr John Ford
  • Dr Jessica Sheringham
  • Dr Oliver Mytton
  • Professor Helen Elsey

We hope you can join us and benefit from this opportunity to discuss career path recommendations, challenges and queries with the support of the FPH Academic Public Health SIG community. You are welcome to submit your questions before the session by emailing joanna.mclaughlin@bristol.ac.uk or ask live on the day. The session will be recorded in part and then made available on the FPH Academic Public Health SIG webpage.

This event is free for FPH members. The usual fee for non-members will be waived to provide an open opportunity for non-members to engage with this Faculty event and learn more about membership benefits. The event's panel members and chair will discuss the support which FPH membership can offer those in academic public health.
